"问世间情为何物, 直教生死相许" an ancient Chinese poem from Jin and Yuan dynasty, written by the famous writer Yuan Haowen. There are several different translations in English. Some say it means "What on earth is LOVE? Why do people abandon themselves to it?" and other say it means "What is love all about? people live and die for it". What's your definition of LOVE?
This is the original poem:
This poem was inspired by what the writer witnessed when he was 16. A pair of wild goose was shot at by a hunter. One was killed while the other survived. The one that survived flew very high and dived down to die next to its pair. The writer was so emotionally touched by this act of LOVE in life and death, The writer then bought both wild geese from the hunter and buried them together and called the grave "雁丘" - "Wild Goose Hill" and is the name of the poem.
